Exciting times for Skate Malawi

Hey there everybody! We are back from Skatelove Festival in Barcelona and we had the best time. We did so much talking about Skate Malawi that by Sunday our voices were almost gone. We met the nicest of people and had many in depth conversations about our plans to build a permanent locally owned and operated roller rink in Malawi. We had lots of offers of help from people of all backgrounds and we are excited to keep these conversations going as we move forward with the project.

We want to say a MASSIVE THANKS to Michelle and the team from Skatelove for being so welcoming, we felt really at home amongst the skating community. People had travelled from all over the world to roll, dance and share their love of skating. The skills on display were mind blowing and we certainly learnt some new moves. If you didn't make it this year you gotta come to the next edition, it really is a roller skating paradise!

So, no sooner had we landed back in windy Scotland we are already packing our bags and getting the kit together for our trip to Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi. Thanks to all the kind donations from the Scottish skate community and other rolling friends we now have a load of stuff to take over to Malawi for the country's first ever roller skating lessons and discos. A big special shout out to Mean City Roller Derby and Bump Roller Disco who were so generous in their donations. All of our work until now has been self funded and putting on these events in Malawi next week would not be possible without the kindness we have been shown. Big shout outs to the DJ's and artists who have contributed mixes and tracks for us to play at the festival. We're looking at you GK Machine, DJ Moocha and the East African Records crew. We can't wait to drop these heavy weight tunes at the rink by the lakeshore next week. We've also got Malawian based heavy weights; No Requests DJ's, DJ Bubblegum and VJ Ice manning the 1's and 2's over the course of the weekend.

To all the people who came to talk to us at the Skate Malawi stall in Barcelona, thank you so much for your time and input, we'll be in touch as soon as we're back from Malawi.

Lake of Stars crew we are feeling the love in a big way right now and can't wait to bring roller dance to the Lake. See you in week!
